John 1:1

In the beginning was the Word [1], and the Word [2] was with God, and the Word was God. [3]

  1. ↑ The word became flesh (see John 1:14). The word in this context speaks of Jesus Christ and how He transcends throughout all eternity.
  2. ↑ The Word is translated as logos (λόγος) in Greek. It speaks of the spoken Word of God. God’s Word is effective: God speaks, and things come into being ( Genesis 1:3, Psalms 33:6, Isaiah 55:10, 11).
